1. SWITCH UP YOUR PLAYLIST

There's nothing worse than going through an hour-long workout in silence.  Or worse, having to suffer through the bad music selection playing overhead at the gym. Who can do that?  Not me!
The jams on my iPod can make or break my motivation level at the gym.  To get the most of your sweat session, considering create a high-energy playlist of stuff you like on your iPod.  Also, remember to change it up every week to stay motivated and engaged.

2. ADD FRIENDS OR A PARTNER

Unless I am in a really shitty mood, and need some time alone, the gym is always better when Shawn tags along!  Not only does he make the workouts more fun (and funny!) his presence alone makes me push to meet my goal.
When he's sweating and kicking up the levels on the treadmill – the competitor in me immediately jumps and tries to meet him at his level.
The same is true for a relaxing sweat session during hot yoga – when I book the appointment or session with a gal pal – I always stay committed.  It helps when coffee (or wine) follows, too.

3. TAKE IT OUTDOORS

There's nothing worse than a monotonous workout routine.  The same of boring machines day in and day out.  Yuck! If you ask me, maintaining the same routine is one of the quickest ways to kill your motivation.
The Summer months are here!  Now, more than ever, is a great time to take your workout routine outdoors.  There are so many great ways to get those extra calorie burning sessions in without even knowing it.
These last several months, Shawn and I have been trading a few hours at the gym with hour long bike rides.  We have been biking everywhere!  Whether we're heading to grab brunch in our neighborhood, or out grabbing milk at Target, we have been jumping on the bikes to get our workouts in.
We also love outdoor activities like kayaking, beach volleyball, golf, running and rollerblading.  While the weather's good – take it outdoors!

4. DRESS THE PART

You know how when you get new shirt or dress, you're

immediately in a

better mood to go out on a Saturday night? Well, the same can apply to working out.
Putting on the same sweats and sports bra day after day can get old fast and become just another reason not to motivate. Once a month, treat yourself to a new piece of fitness fashion. Before you know it, you'll be in such great shape, you'll find yourself in the dressing room trying on those itty bitty Spandex shorts you swore you'd never be caught dead in. Because damn, you look good in them.

5.  CHANGE INTO YOUR WORKOUT GEAR BEFORE THE END OF YOUR WORK DAY

This is a trick I started to incorporate into my daily routine a few months back. I found that when I packed my gym bag, took it the office, and changed into my workout clothes before I left the office that I was more inclined to actually make it to the gym.

Making this small shift in my routine almost guaranteed I made it to my sweat session that evening. Otherwise, I found myself coming home and the sheer thought of changing put me behind. All the other chores and obligations ended up taking over. The result? No gym for me.

Integrate this change into your routine and report back on the change!

6. BUILD IN TIME FOR A BREAK

If you're used to working out every day, make sure to build in time to take a break from your workouts. It's important to take a break from the grind and not push yourself too hard. Those that build in one day a week, at least, to break from the routine are more likely to stay committed to the plan or goal.

7. STAY MOTIVATED WITH A FITNESS TRACKER

Using a fitness A fitness tracker is a great tool for helping you stay motivated and on track with your fitness goals. A good tracker can help you monitor your sleep patterns, keep an eye on your heart rate, notify you throughout the day as you reach your fitness milestones, track your diet consumption and help remind you to stay hydrated – just to name a few. I love my Apple Watch and my FitBit for these very reasons and review the statistics daily.

Do you use a fitness tracker? Which one is your favorite and why?
