During our most recent stay in Jamaica, we had the luxury of splitting our stay between the one of the best luxury resorts in Jamaica, Round Hill Jamaica and The Hillside House Jamaica. Both stays were absolutely incredible, offering gorgeous ocean views and impeccable amenities.
There are so many details included inside this post. We will cover everything from the staff, our experience in the luxury villas, food, pool and beach, fitness classes and spa, water sports, how to handle money while on the resort and so much more!

THE ROUND HILL JAMAICA EXPERIENCE
Discover true island style and subdued sophistication throughout Round Hill Resorts 36 oceanfront guestrooms and 27 private, luxury Jamaica villas designed by Ralph Lauren. Every accommodation across this luxury resort is meticulously maintained with dedicated staff to ensure your every comfort and desire is met.
Located in the Pineapple House, guestrooms overlook Round Hill Bay and snorkeling reef, are steps from the infinity pool, private beach, tennish courts, spa and boast front row access to breathtaking sunsets. The stay at this family resort is truly incredible.
Each designer room features plantation-shuttered windows or balconies, white linen-adorned four-poster beds, quaint sitting areas and spacious bathrooms boasting walk-in showers, soaking tubs and dual vanities.
Each of the 27 complete luxury villas share a common thread of modern refinement, classic style and exceptional service. Four classes of luxury villas are offered at the Round Hill Jamaica, ranging from two- to six-bedrooms and including a selection of fine amenities such as private pools, guest houses, event lawns, private beach, beach bar and the epitome of indoor/outdoor living.

FOOD & BEVERAGE AT THE ROUND HILL RESORT
There are a number of food and beverage ammenities available at the Roud Hill Jamaica. Their James Beard award-winning Executive Chef, Martin Maginley, showcase the finest local ingredients in a variety of custom-crafted dishes inspired by Jamaica’s cultural influences. Recognized with Wine Spectator’s “Award of Excellence” in 2014, Round Hill’s impressive and eclectic wine list compliments the modern Caribbean cuisine featured throughout our dining venues.
Despite the luxurious sound of these ammenities, Round Hill resort is still very much a family resort with food and beverage dishes suitable for everyone in your family.
BREAKFAST
Rise and shine each morning with a hearty, healthy breakfast served in the restaurant, highlighting fresh Jamaican fruit, made to order omelettes, custom-blended smoothies, and a variety of traditional Jamaican dishes.
If you’ve booked a luxury villa, you’ll have an opportunity to enjoy a cooked to order breakfast by your dedicated housekeepers on your private terrace as you enjoy coffee or tea and sweeping views. What’s even more amazing is almost all ingredients are sourced from the grounds via an on-property garden.
BARS
During the afternoon, venture to the Seaside Terrace or the private beach or beach bar for an informal yet delectable lunch featuring a variety of fresh salads and wraps or indulgent burgers and pastas. Wash it down with a Red Stripe (the local favorite to Jamaica) or a Rum Punch and settle back into your beach chaise for a heavenly nap.
Afternoon Tea is served in the lounge, and showcases traditional finger foods such as cucumber sandwiches, fresh fruit and an array of fine desserts. Mingle with guests and enjoy shade from the afternoon sun as you delight in a selection of teas, chilled water and coffee.
Evenings at Round Hill Resort are an occasion to dress in casual, elegant island fashion and truly enjoy your nightly dining experience. Depending on the evening, you may dine al fresco by the moonlit sea on our Seaside Terrace, savour the flavors and show of wood-fire cooking in the open kitchen at The Grill, or go barefoot in the sand on our torch-lit beach for one of our special dining events.
The dimly lit Cocktail Bar is the prime spot for a pre-dinner cocktail and to watch the golden sun set over calm waters. For a uniquely natural spa experience, I recommend booking one of their authentic Jamaican treatments that utilize local ingredients or enjoy a therapeutic Vichy shower or massage in the secluded Hydrotherapy Loft surrounded by tropical gardens.
When you visit The Spa and you will find:
- Seven spacious treatment rooms including one couple’s suite
- Outdoor spa gazebo next to the ocean
- Luxurious, secluded outdoor treatment area set amidst abundant tropical gardens

TIP: If you want to enjoy a peaceful, quite sunset with a small group or a spouse, take the short walk to the Spa & Fitness center. There is a small pier along the private beach that has a great view of the sunset at night. The walk to the spa is about a 5-10 minute walk from the main area of the resort. The walk itself is really lovely and makes for a great morning jog or run.

NIGHTLY ENTERTAINMENT AT ROUND HILL JAMAICA
The night life at Round Hill Jamaica had to be one of the more enjoyable parts of our stay. You can enjoy a diverse range of nightly entertainment in a casual, relaxed setting.
From a torch-lit private beach barbeque on the sand with a live Calypso band to romantic jazz and dancing under the stars, Round Hill provides the perfect accompaniment to your evening. After a long day in the sun, unwind nightly in the lounge with our exceptional pianist Brimsley Ambursley, and on Wednesdays, mingle with the management team of Round Hill over complimentary cocktails.

MONDAYS – BEACH PARTY
Enjoy a “welcome” rum punch and a sumptuous buffet on the private beach with bonfire, barbecue and local sounds of Jamaica performed by the much-loved Mento Calypso Band. Their performance is followed by the Tropical Rhythm Steel Band. A casual atmosphere, enjoy nightlife Montego Bay style and go barefoot! Afterwards, take in the soothing sounds of our house pianist, Brimsley Ambursley, in the Cocktail Bar from 7 p.m.
TUESDAY – FAVOURITE CALYPSO & PIANO TUNES
After dining to the soothing sounds of Calypso music during dinner, retreat to the Cocktail Bar and enjoy the popular melodies of house pianist Brimsley Ambursley.
WEDNESDAY – MANAGER’S COCKTAIL RECEPTION
The Manager’s Cocktail Reception is held every Wednesday from 7 – 8 p.m. Enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and get to know the managers who come out to meet and greet guests. This event is followed by dining at the Seaside Terrace, where Caribbean Curry specials are featured on the a-la-carte menu.
THURSDAY – CALYPSO MUSIC & FAVORITE SING-ALONG SONGS
Begin the evening with the familiar sounds of the Mento Band, followed by your favourite sing-along songs performed by house pianist, Brimsley, along with a special guest singer from the Montego Bay nightlife scene each week.
FRIDAY – JAMAICA NIGHT
This fun and lively event is held weekly on the Seaside Terrace and features a bountiful buffet of Jamaican specialties, steel drums or a Reggae Band and a captivating, Jamaican folklore performance full of fire, acrobatics and more post-dinner (Jamaican folklore performance is seasonal).
SATURDAY – JAZZ NIGHT
The night begins with live Calypso music followed by a featured band or jazz duo.
SUNDAY – CALYPSO & PIANO
After an easy day of sun, sand or spa, guests revel in calypso and piano music and look forward to yet another day of relaxation as a new week begins.

FAMILY FUN AT ROUND HILL JAMAICA
If you are traveling with family or small children, I cannot imagine there is a better family hotel in Jamaica to entertain kids and family members of all ages.
As one of the leading luxury family resorts in the Caribbean, Round Hill Jamaica has developed extensive programs for families as well as special kids-only activities.
Their children’s programs offer fun-filled opportunities to be active, creative, adventurous and imaginative, all while under the supervision and guidance of their highly trained and caring staff. Catering to both young children and teens, Round Hill offers a Pineapple Kids Club and 7-Up Club which offers fun and interactive activities that can be enjoyed as a group or during solo play. Daily programs ensure your family has the opportunity to express their creativity and explore.
Being situated on a private peninsula with 110 acres, kids have an opportunity to explore and enjoy the great outdoors. Their staff members take time to learn each child’s name and look after them while they discover everything the resort has to offer. The large, in-water trampoline had to one of the more enjoyable activities for kids and adults alike.
Other important points for parents to consider when planning a Jamaica family vacation at Round Hill:

MONEY MATTERS WHILE IN JAMAICA
You do not need to exchange your USD in Jamaica. You can use cash and USD all across the island.
As it relates to tips, it is customary to tip the staff at the end of your stay. The recommendation is a tip of $500 – $1,500 (total) depending upon the length of your stay and the amount of people in your party. The tip for the staff needs to be paid in cash and can be put into one envelope which Milton (the House Manager) will distribute to the other staff members.
IS ROUND HILL RESORT ALL INCLUSIVE?
Round Hill Resort is not an all-inclusive resort, however, there are several meal plans available. You may book the Platinum Plan that includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and premium beverages by the glass or hotel bar. Dining at this luxury hotel is a-la-carte.
EXCURSIONS FROM JAMAICA
While we never opted to leave the breathtakingly beautiful resort grounds, there are plenty of options for the more adventure away from this luxury hotel.
The falls at Ocho Rios? Want to travel to the pristine and calm beaches of Negril? Or a hummingbird sanctuary in the mountains? I’d try the world-famous Tryall Golf Club,too, just to name a few. The Concierge at Round Hill Resort can also help you with any number of sightseeing excursions, sporting adventures other water sports and more.
When you visit this luxury Jamaica hotel, the most difficult decisions you’ll need to make are whether to stay by the private pool surrounded by ocean views or head down to the private beach. Or, to crack open that Red Stripe beer, schedule a spa treatment, book a match on the tennis courts, take in a fitness class or a day trip to Negril, to dine in the villa’s open-air dining patio or on the east balcony to watch the lights of Montego Bay glittering across the water.
