WHAT IS RUMCHATA?

RumChata is a cream liqueur that uses five times distilled Caribbean rum and real dairy cream with natural cinnamon, vanilla, sugar and other secret flavors.

Does Rumchata need to be refrigerated?  Once opened RumChata can remain at room temperature and will keep its great taste.

ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO MAKE RUMCHATA HOT CHOCOLATE

While we made this recipe with semi sweet chocolate chips and cocoa, there are a numner of ways you can vary this rum cocktail recipe.   Here are just a few of the ingredients we like to add or replace in this easy adult drink recipe.

  • White chocolate chips or cocoa – How does Rumchata white hot chocolate sound? We love the way the milk chocolate chips and cocoa bring this recipe together, but others love replacing with white chocolate or cocoa, too.
  • Irish cream or coffee liqueur – If you don’t like the taste of rum, feel free to replace with a Irish cream or coffee liqueur.  Be sure to taste before serving and add any additional flavors to enhance the recipe.
  • Nutella hot chocolate – Nutella hot chocolate is so delicious!  If you prefer, add 1/3 cup of Nutella to your pot.

MY FAVORITE HOT CHOCOLATE TOPPINGS:

There are so many delicious hot chocolate toppings that make this the best hot chocolate recipe.  Here are just a few of our favorites:

CAN I FREEZE LEFTOVER HOT CHOCOLATE?

You absolutely can!  I love to add my leftover hot chocolate to ice cube trays to add to coffee, smooties, etc.

CAN I MAKE HOT CHOCOLATE IN MY SLOW COOKER?

You definitely can!  Add all of the ingredients, with the exception of the toppings, to your slow cooker and cook on low for 2 hours stirring occasionally.

If you are serving hot chocolate with Rumchata for a large group (think holiday party, tailgate, office potluck), making this winter cocktail recipe in the slow cooker is a great idea.  Feel free to either double or triple the recipe, if needed.

HOW TO MAKE RUMCHATA HOT CHOCOLATE

Making this Rumchata hot chocolate recipe is quick and easy and can be made in either individual coffee mugs or in a larger pitcher if you’re serving guests.

It’s a great Fall and Winter cocktail if you’re entertaining guests for Halloween, Thanksgiving, football game days, Christmas and more.  Your guests are almost guaranteed to love this boozy hot chocolate cocktail!

First and foremost, this easy hot chocolate recipe can be made with either cocoa, melted milk or white chocolate chips or a combination of the two.  We included instructions for both below, but for this recipe we used melted chocolate chips and 1/4 cup of cocoa powder.

Start my warming 4 cups of milk in a pot on the stove top over medium heat.  Once the milk has warmed, add semi sweet chocolate and stir regularly until melted and well combined.  Feel free to add more chocolate, if desired.  If you’d like your hot chocolate a tad bit thicker, feel free to add 1/2 cup of half and half, sweetened condensed milk or whole milk.

Once the chocolate has melted and combined with the milk, add Rumchata and continue to stir until well combined.

Using a laddle, scoop the hot chocolate into a hug and add all your favorite toppings.

If you’re interested in making this winter cocktail recipe a mocktail, simply omit the Rumchata.  It makes for a delicious treat for the kids, too!

Also, I recommend giving the rum hot chocolate a taste before serving.  Want it stronger?  Feel free to add an bit more Rumchata.  Prefer your hot chocolate even more sweet?  Feel free to add some sugar!  Regardless, this winter cocktail will taste great!
